Precept

The Precept is an annual levy to fund the work undertaken by Parish Council within and on the behalf of the community.

The Precept is collected by Harborough District Council through the Council Tax.

The precept for the financial year 1 April 2015 to 31 March 2016 is £42,393. This payment is made in two instalments - the first in April and the second in September. In addition, the Parish Council receives a Local Council Tax support grant of £1,597.09.

What we spend and how we spend it

Members' allowances and expenses

Apart from travelling expenses for attendance at Councillor training or to represent the Council at meetings or other events, no allowances or expenses were paid to members during the financial year ended 31 March 2015.

Grants paid and received

The following grants were made by the Parish Council in the financial year 2014/15:

Thurnby and Bushby Sports and Social Association (TABSASA) - £6,000 (one off grant for cleaning and repainting of tennis courts and repair to fencing)

Trustees of the Memorial Hall - £6,000 (one off grant for: new double glazing units; replacement of windows and door; repositioning of plumbing; and, installation of thermostatic valves).

TABSASA - annual grant of £2,000 towards maintenance and running costs.

The following grant was made to the Parish Council:

Shires Memorial Grant - £280 (grant towards the cost of the installation of the Military Memorial Stone on the green opposite St Luke's Church, Thurnby).

List of current contracts awarded

The Council funds the following on a permanent basis:

a. emptying of dog waste bins

b. electricity supply to two street lamps

c. maintenance of Manor Field Pond

d. utility supplies to Manor Field Pavilion

e. Taxibus service

f. From the financial year 2015/16, the Parish Council has taken over responsibility for urban grass cutting from Leicestershire County Council.
